Police on Tuesday arrested a Thai woman accused of forcing her 12-year-old daughter into prostitution in Japan, after she was extradited from Taiwan.
The 29-year-old woman, identified only as Luck, was taken into custody after she arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport in Samut Prakan on a flight from Taiwan at 5pm on Tuesday. She had been apprehended in Taiwan, where authorities arranged for her to be returned to Thailand.
Police brought the woman to the Central Investigation Bureau in Bangkok for interrogation. They plan to hold a press conference on the case on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman was detained in Taiwan after it was learned that she had left her 12-year-old daughter in Tokyo with a massage parlour owner who forced her into prostitution before fleeing to the island in September.
The girl remains under the care of Japanese authorities, who say she is being treated as a victim of human trafficking.
Police investigators say that between June and September of this year, the woman, a former prostitute herself, had hired her daughter out for sex in Phetchabun province, at Suvarnabhumi airport and at a massage parlour in Tokyo.
Police have said the woman is facing serious charges, including procuring a minor child for prostitution and human trafficking, which can carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of up to 2 million baht.
