The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has confirmed its readiness for the registration of candidates for the Feb 8 general election, starting on Saturday at the Thai-Japanese sports stadium in Din Daeng district.

City Clerk Narong Ruangsri on Friday inspected the Keelawes 2 sports building of the Thai-Japanese Youth Centre in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district.

He reviewed preparations, addressed potential issues and encouraged staff ahead of the registration process for constituency-based MPs for Bangkok’s 33 constituencies.  Registration will run from Dec 27 to 31 at Keelawes 2 sports building.

Mr Narong said poll officials must ensure fair and impartial services for every candidate. He instructed staff to promptly report any problems to facilitate smooth operations.

BMA officials have also checked electricity, water supply, and emergency medical service points.

For the registration period covering Bangkok’s 33 constituencies, officials will begin preparation will begin at 5am on Saturday, said Mr Narong.

The venue is divided into two zones: the outer area for media operations, where broadcast vehicles and equipment have already been installed, and the inner area for candidate registration.

Seating has been arranged for early arrivals before the official opening at 8.30am, along with designated booths for all 33 constituencies.

The city clerk said traffic management and security measures have been coordinated with officers from Din Daeng police station, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units, and BMA’s Thetsakit (city inspectors) officers, who will be responsible for maintaining order in and around the venue.
