Raft-house toilet dumps guest into river

    Published on

A  woman narrowly escaped drowning when the bathroom floor of a raft-house in Sai Yok district suddenly collapsed, sending her and the toilet crashing into the river below.

The incident occurred on Saturday night. Details were posted on social media by the woman’s son-in-law, Surat Horhom, along with a stark warning to people planning a stay on a raft-house.

The post drew intense criticism of the resort’s safety standards, although it was not named.

According to the post, the family had booked two raft-house rooms, each intended for five adults.

Around 9pm, the mother-in-law went to the bathroom. Just moments later, the wooden floor collapsed and the toilet she was sitting on plunged into the river below.

She clung desperately to the concrete edge with her hands, the lower half of her body submerged in the fast-moving water.

Hearing the commotion, relatives forced open the door and pulled her to safety in time.

The family immediately notified on-site staff, who moved them to another room.

“None of us slept that night,” the poster wrote, adding that the raft-house owner “remained silent” and did not check on the victim’s well-being.

The following morning, the family contacted the management again, asking how the resort intended to take responsibility. They were offered a 50% discount on the room.

When pressed further, the resort reportedly replied they assumed the woman had merely slipped, and suggested she seek medical treatment and submit receipts for reimbursement.

The poster added that staff even insinuated that some guests falsely claim accidents to seek compensation.

The family later filed a police report. The incident was recorded as injury caused by the collapse of the bathroom floor.

The poster expressed frustration over what he described as disorganisation and indifference by both the resort and authorities.

“Up to today, we have not been contacted at all,” he wrote. “We’re locals from Kanchanaburi. We had planned to stay on a raft-house again for New Year, but that’s changed now.

“There is good, safe, up-to-standard raft accommodation out there, but please be careful. If an elderly person or a child had instead been in the toilet, they might not have survived.”

He urged raft-house operators to take safety checks seriously.

“A human life is valuable. Just because she escaped with minor injuries doesn’t mean it was nothing. The feeling of being there, seeing it happen, is awful.

“We were unlucky to encounter such irresponsible operators. Please share this.”

Online reaction has largely echoed the family’s concerns, with many urging the poster to disclose the name of the raft-house.
